I’ve always been obsessed with ALL things cherry flavored. Any time I enjoyed a candy I would definitely go for cherry first, i.e. cherry lollipops, popsicles, jelly beans, Sour Patch Kids. I used loved kids’ cherry Tylenol!

But, I also adore the fresh fruit (and that is all I enjoy these days!).

BJ’s Wholesale sells enormous bags of frozen fruit, so of course I was drawn to a 20 ounce bag of organic dark sweet cherries. Basically, my eyes lit up like the heart-eyes emoji!

I kept dreaming of using them in a creamy smoothie… So that’s what I did.

If I’m trying to be good and sensical, I make smoothies with fruit AND veggies. Usually it’s spinach or kale.

But, there were no green foods in this vision of mine.

So in went the frozen cherries, thick, beautiful white coconut cream that comes from the can. Plus collagen for protein.

I was so smitten with this concoction the first time I made it. I seriously loved it so much I knew I had to blog it, even though it is so simple.

Sometimes, simple really is best!

I like to use frozen fruit and vegetables most often in my smoothies so I can save my fresh produce for eating whole. Plus, I’m able to find produce not in season, it’s cost effective and will last!

Collagen Protein

The two brands I recommend in the recipe for collagen are from grass-fed cows. This is important because you want nutrients from the healthiest animals if you’re going to bother to supplement. There’s no point in buying the low-grade stuff.

Collagen is the most common form of protein in our bodies. Taking supplemental collagen has become very popular lately, and the positive effects are real!

Collagen especially plays a role in:

  • hair, skin, and nail health and growth
  • joint health
  • sealing & healing leaky gut

My favorite aspect of collagen is the role is plays in digestive health, (duh). 😉

Not to worry, it is also tasteless.
