Golden milk is like a (much) healthier version of a hot chocolate.

It’s something I crave as fall creeps in and as winter settles down hard.

Like hot chocolate, golden milk has a thickness to it that is comforting in the cold months. I just love the feeling of sipping on this after coming in from a freezing cold day.

But unlike most hot chocolates I have savored in my life, golden milk is FULL of healing properties.

The form you have selected does not exist.

Why Make It Bulletproof?

In my version, I incorporated the Bulletproof style. Have you heard of this? Bulletproof coffee has been a trend for a while, and for good reason! By adding grass-fed butter and coconut oil or brain octane to your coffee, you put off cravings and stay fuller longer. Plus, your body gets a dose of healthy fats.

Dave Asprey is the pioneer of this invention, and has a whole website and books dedicated to it. Check out his website, here!

This is a short video clip to give you a preview about Bulletproof coffee, who’s drinking it, and a little about Dave Asprey himself.

The Powerful Herb: Turmeric

Besides non-dairy milk, turmeric is the most important ingredient in making golden milk, and what makes it that beautiful color! Turmeric is also used in curries and mustard (hence the color) and is in the ginger family.

The benefits of turmeric (or curcumin, the compound in turmeric) are seemingly endless.

  • Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. This study concluded that “…people on curcumins had a 65 percent lower chance of heart attack.”
  • This Huffington Post article describes 6 health benefits of turmeric, including delaying the onset of Type 2 Diabetes and fighting cancer.

Consuming turmeric is beneficial for everyone, but especially for people trying to lower inflammation in the body.

First and foremost, I think you will find this drink delicious with a little spicy kick that will warm you from the inside out. A major plus is that you can feel really good about drinking this! Morning, noon, or night, just go for it!

Choose whatever dairy free milk you like! I use almond milk or coconut milk.

Feel free to adjust the measurements as you like. I listed the turmeric as 1 teaspoon because it has a strong flavor and is quite spicy, especially if you are not used to it! By all means, add more turmeric as you grow used to the flavor.

1 TBS cinnamon

1 TBS coconut oil

Optional: 1/2 tsp raw organic honey

Notes

Black pepper is said to magnify the healing benefits of turmeric. However, many people are sensitive to it (like myself). So much so, that it is not allowed on the AIP diet. You are welcome to add a bit of black pepper if you want to try it out.
